Privacy Policy

1099 Tax — Mileage & Books is designed as a local-first recordkeeping app for self-employed and 1099 workers. This policy explains what happens to the mileage, receipt, income, invoice, backup, and export records you create in the app.
Data stored on your device
The app stores your ledger records locally on your device. This can include trips, mileage, receipt images, OCR suggestions, income entries, invoices, vehicle settings, reminders, and local backup files. Records are protected by iOS Data Protection (FileProtectionType.complete) — encrypted at rest while the device is locked.
Data we collect
The app does not use a developer account system, analytics SDK, advertising SDK, crash-report SDK, or developer cloud sync. We do not operate a server that holds your records. We do not receive your local ledger records unless you choose to send them to us outside the app — for example, by emailing them to support.
Our App Store privacy nutrition label declares Data Not Collected across every category.
Device permissions
- Location — used on device to help track mileage. Never transmitted off the device by the app.
- Camera and Photos — used on device to capture or import receipts. Vision OCR runs locally; receipt images stay in the app's container.
- Notifications — used for local quarterly reminder alerts (Apr 15 / Jun 15 / Sep 15 / Jan 15). No push from a server.
- Face ID / Touch ID / device passcode — used by iOS for the optional in-app lock. Authentication happens entirely on the device.
Purchases
In-app purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Apple may process purchase and account information under Apple's terms and privacy policies. The app verifies entitlements locally via Transaction.currentEntitlements; we do not operate a developer purchase server.
Exports and backups
When you export a CPA packet, share an invoice, or create a local backup, you choose where that file goes. Files shared to other apps or cloud services (iCloud Drive, Mail, AirDrop, Files, etc.) are handled by those services' policies once they leave the app's container.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children. The app is intended for adult self-employed and 1099 workers.
Tax and legal disclaimer
1099 Tax is a recordkeeping tool. It is not tax, legal, accounting, or financial advice. It does not file tax returns or guarantee deductions. You are responsible for reviewing your records with a qualified tax professional.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected in an app update or the App Store description.
